Top monuments in Crete: the Knossos Palace

The archaeological site of the palace of Knossos is a world-class attraction. This well-known monument is the most important and iconic site of the glorious Minoan civilization in Crete. According to mythology, the seat of the king Minos was there, while the legends of the Labyrinth with the Minotaur, and Daedalus and Icarus, are also connected with the site which was continuously inhabited from the Neolithic period to Roman era

⇑ Pros: The building complex is impressive in terms of size, frescos, the archaeology of artfacts, and the sophisticated architecture.

Cons: However the restoration of the early 20th century, reflecting the conservation theories of that period, help non-specialists to have a better understanding of the form of the Palace before its abandonment, in overall there is a lack of authenticity.
Moreover the surroundings of the archaeological site need redevelopment.

🔝 Best time to visit:  April - May and September - October, and in the evening (the site is closing at 20:00) during the summer.
